BUTLER BUILDING ROOF INSULATION

High Performance Roof Insulation for Maximum Thermal Efficiency

Butler Roof Insulation systems are engineered to deliver superior thermal performance, moisture control, and long term energy efficiency for metal building roof assemblies. Using advanced banded systems and OptiLiner solutions, these systems minimize thermal bridging, improve condensation control, and maximize R-values without adding unnecessary installation complexity.

Advanced Insulation Systems for Butler Roof Assemblies

Traditional roof insulation methods often fall short due to compression, thermal gaps, and inconsistent installation. Butler Roof Insulation systems solve these issues by using structured banded systems and high-performance liner systems that maintain insulation thickness and coverage across the entire roof.

By reducing thermal bridging and improving moisture control, these systems create a more efficient building envelope while maintaining long-term durability. The result is better performance, lower energy costs, and a roof system built to perform under demanding conditions.

What we offer

Long-Tab Banded System

Butler LTB System Wall Insulation

OptiLiner

Butler OptiLiner Wall Insulation

Long-Tab Banded System

Download Specification

The long-tab banded system involves using laminated insulation with extra-long facing tabs as well as metal banding for support. The extra-long facing tabs can be adhered to the tops of the purlins, suspending the insulation within the cavity , while the metal banding is attached using TEK screws perpendicular to and below the purlins to help support the weight of the laminated insulation in the purlin cavity.

For roofs, faced fiberglass is installed parallel and between the purlins. Unfaced insulation is installed perpendicular and over the top of the purlins. The metal banding is secured perpendicular and to the bottom of the purlins.

For walls, when a higher R-value is desired, unfaced fiberglass can be installed perpendicular to the girts and faced fiberglass parallel to the girts.

Key Benefits

Long-tab banded filled-cavity insulation is a reliable and efficient choice for insulating metal buildings.

OptiLiner Banded Liner System

Download Specification

The OptiLiner Banded Liner System is designed to provide maximum thermal performance of light density fiberglass insulation in metal building roof and wall applications.

The installed banding and fabric support system allows roof cavities to be completely filled with two layers of insulation with minimal insulation compression. When installed in strict compliance with the Bi-Directional Banding Roof Installation Instructions, OptiLiner® meets the requirements of OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1926.754(e) (3)(i) covers for roof and floor openings, and is used in both new construction and retro-fits.

High Performance Roofing Integration

Optimized for compatibility with industry leading roof systems to maximize insulation performance and efficiency.

When integrated with advanced metal roofing systems, our insulation assemblies are engineered to maximize thermal efficiency, moisture control, and long term building performance.

Our systems are specifically designed for compatibility with MR-24 Standing Seam Roof System and VSR II Roof System, two of the most widely used high performance roofing platforms in commercial and industrial construction.

Through this integration, insulation performance can be significantly enhanced using a patented high clip system that improves thermal continuity while maintaining standard installation practices. This allows building envelopes to achieve insulation values of up to R-32, without introducing additional labor complexity or installation steps.

The result is a more efficient roof assembly that delivers improved energy performance, reduced thermal bridging, and consistent long term durability across demanding environments.

MR-24 Standing Seam Roof System

A high performance standing seam roof system designed for durability, weather resistance, and long term structural integrity in metal building applications.

VSR II Roof System

A versatile roof system engineered for strength, efficiency, and compatibility with advanced insulation assemblies.

Thermaliner™ Insulation System Specifications

Key product specifications designed to guide your decision with clarity, accuracy, and confidence.

Enhance energy efficiency

The ThermaLiner insulation system adds multiple layers of roof insulation to help save on your building’s heating and cooling costs. Uncompressed blanket insulation can be added in various thicknesses to achieve certified and tested effective R-values as high as 38.7 or the equivalent U-factor of 0.026. Because the ThermaLiner system can be used with any Butler® roof system, a wide range of R-values and U-factors can be achieved, based on the roof system type and configuration specified. Depending on building codes and your specific building requirements, you can choose from tested thermal performance options with R-values in the range of R-22 to R-41 or an equivalent U-factor from 0.052 to 0.026.

Trust a tested system

Butler built one of the first guarded hot boxes in North America for the in-place performance testing of actual or effective R-values of roof, wall and insulation system assemblies. This assures that the tested thermal values provided by Butler are verifiable and that Butler building systems deliver the energy efficiency they promise.

Add more performance attributes

The acoustic characteristics of the ThermaLiner system may reduce noise transmission to create quieter and more productive interior spaces. And unlike standard insulation systems that require penetrations of the insulation facing in order to install sprinklers, lights and ducts, the liner panel maintains an attractive look while not allowing the opportunity for moisture to penetrate through.

Choose the roof and structural system

The versatile ThermaLiner system can be specified with the economy of the Butlerib II roof system, the architectural appearance of the VSR II roof system or the proven durability of the MR-24 roof system. And it can be installed on either the Landmark™ 2000 or Widespan™ structural system.

Assure fast and easy installation

The liner panel of the ThermaLiner system installs with self-drilling screws and offers quick, temporary enclosure to protect against adverse weather. Once installed, the liner panel provides a work surface that allows for easy installation of the roof system and insulation. In addition, the liner can act as a diaphragm to transfer wind loads through the roof system — which may reduce structural bracing.

Create an attractive interior look

The monolithic appearance of the liner panel provides an attractive finished interior look. The liner is available as painted material or unpainted Galvalume®, both of which are abuse-resistant, durable and easy-to-clean. And the liner panel is offered in a wide variety of colors to enhance the interior of your facility.
